Joining one of our guided tours is a great way to get to know IMMA and our exhibitions in more detail. Our experienced guides are extremely knowledgeable about art in general, and each IMMA exhibition in particular. Tours are free of charge, but exhibition fees apply in the case of ticketed exhibitions. For information regarding tours please contact Chris Jones: [email protected].
We offer informal weekly tours that are designed to provide a general introduction to current exhibitions at IMMA.
Day | Hours |
Wednesday: | 2.30pm |
Saturday: | 2.30pm |
Sunday: | 2.30pm |
Each tour lasts 30 minutes. Please arrive early for tours as numbers are limited (max 20).
No booking required, just come to the ‘Meeting Place’ in the main IMMA Reception. Please note that tours may not take place if other engagement and learning talks or workshops are in progress at the same time, so please inquire at reception on the day, or in advance of your visit. A good way to do this is to check the Tour category in the What’s On section of this website for the date you intend to visit.
Guided tours are available for special interest groups including schools, colleges and adult education. Join one of our knowledgeable Visitor Engagement Team members and take a walk through any of our exhibitions. Exploring a variety of themes, the guided tour will pull together connections and meaning from distinct elements of our current exhibitions. Every tour is different.
Group tours must be booked at least two weeks in advance. Please give us as much notice as possible to help secure your preferred date and time. We cannot respond to requests for tours within a two week timeframe.

Studio10 is a programme for adults of all levels of creative experience and includes guided tours, discussions, and experimental art-making. The programme is scheduled into blocks of consecutive weekly sessions, with each block addressing a particular exhibition. The activities are based from IMMA’s Studio10.
Blocks of sessions are free, no booking is required, and participants may attend multiple blocks as they wish. View all Studio 10 events.
If you choose not to avail of a free tour with one of our Visitor Engagement Team you may still visit the museum with your group, but you will still need to book your group visit in with us for any group larger than 8 people.
Capacity for each gallery space changes for every exhibition so it is important to note that the galleries might not be able to accommodate entry to large groups. Access is therefore not guaranteed and will depend on capacity on a given day and time. Priority will always be given to groups who have booked in with us in advance.
Any self-guided groups wishing to visit the IMMA Collection: Freud Project exhibition must notify IMMA in advance of your visit, as entry is by time-slot only. Due to the number and delicate nature of the works and the limited circulation space of the historic building that houses the Freud Centre capacity is strictly limited and larger groups cannot be accommodated in this exhibition. Please email [email protected] for more details.
Group leaders and students visiting the Gallery should make themselves familiar with the IMMA’s terms and conditions.
