IMMA initiates and participates in a wide range of projects and research both cross departmentally within the museum itself, and in partnership with other institutions and arts organisations nationally and internationally. Most projects are medium to long-term and most are action-research projects intended to inform IMMA’s own practice and policy development, and cultural policy development in general.
Sometimes there may seem to be very little difference between what we term a ‘project’ versus a piece of research, and often the two sit side by side, but in general terms we categorise ‘research’ as applying to a single area of focus, often by a single person, to reach a specific outcome. Projects are often more exploratory and can have many facets, drawing from events, exhibitions and areas of research. In the sections below you can explore a selection of both.
