IMMA initiates and participates in a wide range of projects and research both interdepartmentally within the museum, and in partnership with other institutions and arts organisations nationally and internationally. Most projects are medium to long-term and most are action-research projects intended to inform IMMA’s own practice and policy development, and cultural policy development in general.
Sometimes there may seem to be very little difference between what we term a ‘project’ versus a piece of research, and often the two sit side by side, but in general terms we categorise ‘research’ as applying to a single area of focus, often by a single person, to reach a specific outcome. Projects are often more exploratory and can have many facets, drawing from events, exhibitions and areas of research. In the sections below you can explore a selection of both.
