Waiting Out, 2017

Waiting Out, 2017 is a solo performance for FIX17 and was commissioned by Catalyst Arts, Belfast. In the performance Johnston creates a tension between objects and her body through physical actions. Natural actions are extended beyond themselves to strike up images that create a tension between the audience and performer. Johnson explores physical states of responsiveness formed in relation to the actualities of specific situations at the moment of making.

    Sandra Johnston, b.1968

    Northern Irish artist Sandra Johnston uses performance and installation to explore the aftermath of trauma through acts of commemoration as forms of testimony and empathetic encounter. Johnston is a co-founder of collectives including CATALYST ARTS and BBEYOND. She completed a PhD research project ‘Beyond Reasonable Doubt: An Investigation into Concepts of Doubt, Risk and Testimony Explored Through Consideration of Performance Art Processes in Relation to Systems of Legal Justice’ in 2013.
