IMMA was established in 1991 as Ireland’s National Cultural Institution for Modern and Contemporary Art. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee and was incorporated in April 1985, originally named the Royal Hospital Kilmainham Company. It has Charitable Status approved by the Charities Regulator and has been granted Charitable Tax Exemption from the Revenue Commissioners.
