This is a presentation of art accumulated to display the themes at hand in the recent EP by Fortune Igiebor, ‘Love, Rage + The Vigilante Maestro’.
The Walk-Through Experience will take audiences through the themes explore in the EP consisting of love & romance, discrimination & racism, and overcoming triumph in a changing Dublin City.
It is a creative space used to highlight how different aspects of Ireland had helped inspire the musical creation. Focusing on the current social-climate of Dublin city after the riots, it’ll take visitors of the space on a journey explaining how the suppression of cultural art and true ethnic identity should lead to a cultural revolution. Held almost like a Willy Wonka experience, there will be two sections exploring a variety of different artforms such as Conceptual Photography ,Thematic Poetry , Set Design (To coincide with the names of the two rooms), Painting and Posters.
The two sections explored are:
- THE UNDERGROUND
This section of the exhibition would focus on the inner thoughts of our character at hand ‘Mr.Rage/The Vigilante Maestro’. Mr.Rage is a musical alias which focuses on taking his outer surroundings and creating art from the result. The concept of becoming the Vigilante Maestro consists of Mr.Rage channeling Dublin’s new discriminative climate, inspiring peers & fellow creatives to rise up and vocalize their frustration through an artistic approach. ‘The Underground’ will highlight the process of making the musical project and how culture comes into play. For example, A stylistic wall consisting of poetry and drawn art which focuses on how Mr.Rage had begun to notice the belittling treatment of POCs in Dublin. This section is set to have a dramaticized design which presents some of the darker thoughts one may face while being a coloured creative and/or bystander. Using tracks 1-7 of the project as a structural guide, each song tackles themes most familiar with musical supporters while introducing the new story of social climate and how it may affect POCs.
- THE RED HAMELIN
The concept at hand is loosely related to the story of The Pied Piper. As he led the kids with music through joyous laughs and a cheerful skip, the idea is to lead the audience from the Underground to the Red Hamelin. Which essentially paints a dystopian Dublin on the walls of the Creative Space. The way there’s a push for people of colour to migrate, an incline in racism and discrimination, the design of the Red Hamelin will create a world dedicated to how different cultures have aided our city. Through photography, set design, and visuals we want to create a world within the creative space that encourages creating art derived from low-points, high points, our newfound home and the home which resides in our hands. The aim is to create a warm, vibrant atmosphere where The Vigilante Maestro would speak on how now more than ever, it’s important to consider inclusion and promote diversity at home, in places of work. “Rather than nodding in silence at a diversity meeting with slides, we come together, multiply our numbers, and create spaces like these where our art can be appreciated.”
IMMA’s current exhibition ‘We realised the power of it Derry Film & Video Workshop’ in the Main Galleries, West Wing, touches on similar themes: gender, class, collective organising, the Irish ‘national question’ and the legacies of imperialism.
