Join Ali Stanger and Henrik Gard, co-founders of acrobatic performance company Cikada Circus, for a special intimate performance of their work, Belonging.

Belonging is a duo performance piece which involves the performers using a piece of stretch fabric to create moving sculptures, abstract shapes and forms to heighten senses and scenes of belonging in varying forms. It is an aid in balance of physical and metaphorical connections between two acrobatic movement artists. Belonging responds to the theme, meaning and feeling of belonging or not belonging to something or someone. The performance was created in relation to an exhibition where European artists responded to the theme of belonging. The development of the show was supported by Arts Council Ireland and Nenagh Arts Centre and commissioned by the Belonging exhibition, Limerick.

This piece is performed by Ali Stanger, and Henrik Gard. Directed by Alain Servant. Music is by Craig Cox.

Cikada Circus

Cikada Circus is an acrobatic performance company founded and performed by Ali Stanger and Henrik Gard. Their focus is on weaving acrobatic movement with abstracted everyday narratives with a splash of comedy. The company’s debut show Cikada (2018) was inspired by the 1953 poem Cikada by Swedish poet Harry Martinson and the show has since toured Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

In 2022 they launched two new shows – Belonging, for exhibitions and museums, and Encounter, a pop up site-adaptive performance that takes place on a park bench and celebrates chance encounters and the sharing of world views and lifestyles.

Cikada Circus has kindly received support from Arts Council Ireland, Dance Ireland, Dublin Circus project, Carlow Arts Festival, and Arts Council Northern Ireland. The company divides their time between Dublin, Belfast and the rest of the world.
