IMMA is delighted to be part of Culture Date with Dublin 8, a neighbourhood initiative celebrating the cultural and historical life of Dublin 8. Through a host of free family friendly activities Culture Date with Dublin 8 aims to encourage people to explore what is on their doorstep.

IMMA’s programme for the weekend includes exclusive guided tours of the exhibitions Doris Salcedo, Acts of Mourning and the IMMA Collection, Freud Project, Gaze, seven exhibitions to visit including free entry into Gaze, family workshop, a self-guided art trail and children’s activity packs.

All events are free and will take place in the Kilmainham and Inchicore district which includes IMMA, The Phoenix Park, The Irish National War Memorial Gardens, Kilmainham Gaol, Richmond Barracks and Goldenbridge Cemetery. There are two flagship events – The Irish National War Memorial Family Fun Day and an outdoor Concert in Goldenbridge Cemetery.

10am–5:30pm Self-Guided Art Trail. Explore the grounds of IMMA and find out about 10 artworks situated in the gardens. No ticket booking required.
12:00pm Guided Exhibition Tour – IMMA Collection: Freud Project, Gaze. Ticket Booking Required. Gaze is the third annual exhibition in the IMMA Collection: Freud Project; a major five-year initiative around fifty-two works by painter Lucian Freud (1922-2011) that have been lent to the museum’s Collection. Gaze continues to actively explore Freud’s practice by positioning his works alongside those of other artists from the IMMA Collection.
2:30pm Guided Exhibition Tour – Doris Salcedo ‘Acts of Mourning‘. Ticket Booking Required. Doris Salcedo (b. 1958, Colombia), is one of the world’s leading sculptors whose work is deeply rooted in her native Colombia. This is her first solo exhibition in Ireland and reflects Salcedo’s continued focus on the experience of mourning and the connections between, violence, anonymity and public space.
2:00pm–4:00pm Family Workshop -EXPLORER
Get creative together as a family, explore artworks with IMMA staff, and enjoy a hands-on workshop in the galleries. Explorer is a fun way to explore and learn about art.Drop in, No Ticket Booking Required.
10am–5:30pm IMMA EXPLORER Activity Packs are available from the front reception desk. Families can use the map together tofind out about the artworks that are outdoors in IMMA’s grounds, and children can engage with IMMA’s building, garden and galleries using the IMMA Explorer activity booklet. No Ticket Booking Required.
