The What Is_? Programme provides an introduction to some of the key concepts and themes in modern and contemporary art for all audiences.

About What Is_?

This IMMA programme is a great way to find out more about the concepts and terms used in contemporary art. It includes talks, booklets and web-based resources which you can explore below. The programme is presented in four series, three of which you can explore in the menu above.

Each series draws on the expertise and experience of lecturers, artists, curators and critical writers. Each topic is addressed by a talk, which you can download below, and is supported by a summary text, the presenter’s essay, a suggested reading list, and a glossary of terms.
