IMMA welcomes visitors of all ages. All of our exhibitions are always free for under 18s and the size and scope of the IMMA campus makes it a great destination for children. We know that when you visit with children there are extra things you might want to know about to better plan your visit, so you can find out more in this section.
Our family programmes are currently running online, our popular Explorer Family Workshops are available online until further notice, please visit Explorer at Home.
See What’s On for more details of current events, and also see our Families section for more information.
If you are visiting the galleries with children you will find lots to see and discuss. You will find signage in the galleries to help inform your visit, but if in doubt just ask a member of our Visitor Engagement Team, easily identifiable by their blue lanyards.
On occasion we will provide advisory notices for artworks that we feel may not be suitable for all visitors. If you are in any doubt about the suitability of an exhibition for your visit please speak to the front desk or any member of our visitor engagement team.
On the practical side, adapted toilets and baby changing facilities available. There are lifts in each part of the museum so access to upper floors is possible with buggies and pushchairs. Due to social distancing requirements lift access is limited, only one family can access the lift at any one time. Most exhibitions allow sufficient space for pushchairs but from time to time artists may install work that fills an entire room.
There is an outdoor pop-up cafe, make sure to bring your picnic blankets.
Please note that children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times throughout the museum.
