About the Artist

Elizabeth Rivers, 1903–1964

British artist Elizabeth Rivers attended Goldsmith’s College, London, the Royal Academy Schools and the École de Fresque, Paris. Rivers lived on the Aran Islands between 1935 and 1942. In 1946, her book 'Stranger in Aran' was published by the Cuala Press. Rivers assisted stained glass artist Evie Hone between 1946 and 1955 and was a founding member of the Graphic Studio Dublin. A memorial exhibition of her work was held at the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin, in 1966.
