About the Artist

Ilya Kabakov, 1933–2023

Born in Dnipropetrovsk, USSR, now Dnipro, Ukraine,Ilya Kabakov moved to the West in 1987. Considered a leading figure in installation art, Kabakov’s practice combines drawings, paintings and found objects to form complex installations which reflect the social, historical and political forces which shaped his life and work. Since 1988 Kabakov has worked collaboratively with his wife Emilia to create installations in venues worldwide, including a large site-specific installation at IMMA in 1999.
