Emilia Kabakov was born in Dnipropetrovsk, USSR, now Dnipro, Ukraine. She moved to Israel in 1973 and then to New York in 1975. Since 1988, Kabakov collaborated with her husband Ilya Kabakov to make large scale installation works which reflect the social, historical and political forces which have shaped their lives and experiences. They have exhibited internationally and created installations in venues worldwide, including a large site-specific installation titled ‘The Children’s Hospital’ at IMMA in 1999.
