Iranian artist Shirazeh Houshiary studied at the Chelsea School of Art. During the 1980s she became established as part of a younger generation of sculptors working in Britain. The idea of an inner reality, expressed in an abstract language, which lies beneath the outward appearance of things, is central to her artistic practice. Houshairy was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1994. She has exhibited extensively in Europe and America.
