American artist Chuck Close studied at the University of Washington, Seattle and at Yale University under master printer Gabor Peterdi. Close gained critical attention in 1970 with a series of monumental painted canvases of himself and his friends. He exhibited internationally and his work is represented in public and private collections worldwide. Close was elected a member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, New York in 1992.
