Born and educated in Dublin, Alfred Grey first exhibited at the RHA in 1864 and continued almost annually until 1924. He specialised in animal portraiture and landscape painting and was commissioned by Queen Victoria to paint a number of her favourite views in the Scottish Highlands. Grey was the first president of the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club.
