The Enquiry (Jeanette Doyle, Emer Lynch, Jennie Guy and Deborah Madden) invite you to their event ‘Your Face Follows Me: The Enquiry @ IMMA’ on the Tuesday the 5th of September, 1-2.30pm.

Meeting at the green chairs in the courtyard of IMMA at 1pm, visitors will then be brought inside scarcely seen rooms within the institution for a choreographed event featuring artworks, screenings, a play, digital text works and live sound pieces.

There will be the first European presentation of ‘MBS Material’ by Michael Bell-Smith (courtesy of the artist and Foxy Production, New York). ‘MBS Material’ is a streaming video that continues the artist’s exploration of the visual systems of design and advertising. The work is presented in the museum as a streaming video via a custom-built website that exists, not unlike Netflix or Hulu, “in the cloud” only, opening up questions of immateriality, fixity, ownership, and network dependence.

As the event unfolds, the audience will experience moving image works by curator and artist Jennie Guy; a series of new text based animations by artist Jeanette Doyle; live sound works by curator, artist and editor Deborah Madden; and a play by Shane Callaghan, curated by Emer Lynch. The event will finish at 2.30pm.

The event builds on The Enquiry’s ongoing research into Jean-François Lyotard’s considerations of the immaterial, and the intersection between the immaterial and the de-material. Your Face Follows Me: The Enquiry @ IMMA is a precursor to The Enquiry’s participation at The Research Pavilion in the context of the 2017 Venice Biennale. This weekend programme of events is curated by Noel Fitzpatrick and Brian Fay for GradCAM under the thematic of ‘The Utopia of Access’ and kindly supported by Culture Ireland. The Enquiry is a seminar group affiliated with GradCAM, The Graduate School for Creative Arts and Media in Dublin and hosted by the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
