We are delighted to present The Maternal Gaze, a series of short videos and films featuring 22 artists and creatives based in Ireland, presented as part of The Artist’s Mother project. Tune in to our social media channels each Tuesday and Saturday afternoon as participating artists answer IMMA’s invitation to reflect on the impact of their mother figure on their career practice and development.
The Maternal Gaze screening programme accompanies the in-gallery and online exhibition The Artist’s Mother: Lucie and Daryll. Both shine a light on complex, sometimes painful, but enduring inter-generational family relationships. A predominant theme is the powerful influence – particularly of the mother or grandmother – in encouraging creativity in children. Additional themes include exile and separation, family histories, myth and memory.
IMMA thanks the contributing artists; members of Art Nomads, IMMA staff and participants of Studio 10, one of IMMA’s most popular gallery and studio-based programmes.
