Summer at IMMA presents a free music and performance programme in the beautiful surroundings of the IMMA Courtyard. Bring your friends and family along to enjoy a vibrant mix of atmospheric and engaging live events, all free of charge. Music in the Courtyard celebrates both emerging and established artists, offering something for every musical taste in a unique open-air setting.

This July and August, we are delighted to welcome a dynamic line-up of performances. Highlights include The Dawson Chorus, a 90-strong Dublin pop choir bringing beloved hits from the 70s to today; The Kevin Brady Trio, delivering an energetic and nuanced jazz performance; and Louise O’Connor, whose lively Céilí blends traditional Irish music, dance and wellbeing practices. Audiences can also enjoy Vicka, a Brazilian singer-songwriter whose intimate performances combine pop, folk and MPB influences; The Flanagans, a family ensemble celebrating rich Irish musical heritage with a modern twist; and Roots in Tune, a joyful intercultural collective inviting audiences to join in music and dance from around the world.

Music in the Courtyard August Programme

The Kevin Brady Trio

The Kevin Brady Trio will bring an afternoon of jazz performance to the courtyard at IMMA. Led by jazz drummer and composer Kevin Brady, the trio features Scott Flanigan on piano and Cormac O’Brien on double bass. Set against the unique atmosphere of this historic open-air setting, the performance promises energy and nuance. The group will present a mix of original compositions alongside fresh arrangements of beloved jazz standards.

Audiences can expect a dynamic and engaging concert that blends creativity, rhythm, and improvisation.

Family Céilí

Rooted in the wild beauty of the West of Ireland, Louise O’Connor is a traditional Irish fiddle player, sean-nós dancer, and set and céilí dance instructor, bringing the joy of Irish music and movement to groups of all kinds.

Trading as Lasta Dance, Louise draws on a background in applied psychology and years of experience in autism services to create connection through dance. She currently holds a Dance Artist in Residence role with Creative Life, MISA, at St James’s Hospital, running a dance programme for people with Parkinson’s, alongside school visits, weddings, community events, workshops, and her long-running Monday night set dancing class at the Cobblestone in Dublin.

For Louise, dance is above all a way of connecting people — through rhythm, movement, and shared tradition.


Vicka

Vicka is a Brazilian singer-songwriter currently based in Dublin. Her work blends pop, folk, and MPB influences, bringing an intimate and emotional atmosphere to her performances. The set will feature original songs alongside carefully selected covers, creating a heartfelt and engaging experience for the audience. With voice and guitar, the performance invites listeners into a space of connection, storytelling, and authenticity.

The Flanagans

The Flanagans are a family ensemble rooted in a rich musical heritage, proudly drawing inspiration from legendary relatives such as Sarah, Rita, Seán, Matt, and Dolores Keane. The family originally hail from North Clare, a renowned hotbed of traditional Irish music, and bring a deep sense of place and tradition to their performance.
The lineup features Úna Ní Fhlannagáin, winner of the Riada Bonn Óir (Gold Medal) for harp; Fionnuala McKey, an award-winning musician and singer, and winner of the prestigious Siansa Gael Linn competition; Rory Fitzgerald, an All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil solo champion; and Luke Neylon, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and multiple Fleadh Cheoil champion. They will be joined on stage by a diverse assortment of family members, including master flute player John Flanagan, Nora Ní Fhlannagáin, Darragh Fitzgerald and Gearóid Hartnett.
Together, The Flanagans offer an authentic celebration of Irish tradition, beautifully balancing their deep musical roots with a contemporary twist.

Roots in Tune

The musicians from Roots in Tune are “having a ball” at IMMA. Roots in Tune is a non-profit organisation that promotes intercultural connections through music and the arts, with their programme “We’re having a Ball”. Roots in Tune facilitates the interaction between traditional musicians and dancers from different nationalities and backgrounds who are currently living in Ireland.

Participants of the programme regularly meet on an informal basis and learn tunes and dances from one another. They will form an occasional Traditional Orchestra to play at IMMA and are inviting the audience to join and dance along. The dance repertoire will reflects the international character of the programme, with music and dances from around the world.
