Join us to celebrate International Slow Art Day at IMMA with a selection of events designed to encourage you to slow down, engage your senses and experience art in a new way.

Slow Art Day is a global event with more than 1,500 museums and galleries participating with a simple mission: to help more people discover the joy of looking at and loving art. When people look slowly at a piece of art they make discoveries, so join us this Slow Art Day and see what you will discover! Scroll further down this page to find out more.

Slow Art Day at IMMA is programmed as part of IMMA Horizons, Lifelong Creativity for the Curious. IMMA Horizons provides free creative experiences and events for adults to meet and explore art together at a relaxed pace, in a sociable and supportive environment that encourages active participation by all.

Slow Art Tour

Time: 11-12pm
Location: Meeting at IMMA’s main reception
Free, booking required. Book here.

This free tour guided by an IMMA facilitator, will give you a taste of IMMA’s Slow Art Sessions that take place throughout the year, twice monthly. Slow Art encourages us to delve deeper by spending time looking closely at one artwork, or a small selection of work. Talking about an artwork with others in a convivial and supportive atmosphere, can open our eyes to new details, unravel stories and reveal things we did not see at first. By giving ourselves time, we can make meaningful connections with art, often discovering new ways of looking at the world and prompting interesting questions.

All welcome and no experience of art or museums necessary. Seating will be provided.
