This exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures, installations, and video works dating from the 1960s to the present from the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection. Produced by artists from Palestine and neighbouring countries, these works trace both the enduring challenges faced by Palestinian communities and their continued assertions of hope and agency.

The exhibition includes a focus on Abdul Hay Mosallam Zarara (1933 – 2020) whose distinctive style using unconventional materials like sawdust, unflinchingly depicted injustice in Palestine as well as other global liberation struggles, including Ireland. Contemporary artists such as Shadi Habib Allah, Basma Al Sharif, and Simone Fattal, reflect on the unique context of Palestine in diverse material and conceptual approaches that give insight into the complexity of life there.

The exhibition foregrounds the sustained creativity of artists whose practices engage with the history of occupation, the present political reality, and questions of human rights in Palestine. It reflects a long history of artistic engagement with the struggle for homeland and sovereignty in Palestine, while bearing witness to forced displacement and profound loss. At the same time, the works affirm Palestinian identity and cultural heritage and articulate a language of solidarity.

The exhibition is curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation, the independent public arts organisation she established in 2009. She has served as Director of the Sharjah Biennial since 2003, overseeing its development as a major international platform for contemporary art. Her work focuses on supporting artistic production, international collaboration, and long-term cultural infrastructure.
