Record
Siamsa Tire, Tralee, Co. Kerry
30 October – 19 November

Record consists of three film works from the IMMA Collection by artists Sarah Morris, Phil Collins & Gerardo Suter.  The exhibition focus is on film works, which represent reality in a documentary style.  Sarah Morris reverses the camera onto the screen writer and director Robert Towne and presents what is described as a ‘portrait’ of a script-doctor whose work includes many classic blockbusters from the 1970s onwards. The film cleverly alludes to cinematic techniques throughout the interview which evolves into a 34 minute monologue.  Also in interview format How to make a refugee by Phil Collins portrays a conversation between a news crew, a 15 year old Kosovo boy and his family.  The film centres mainly on arranging the boy and extended family for a photograph. Insights into their story are gained from the various voices relayed through an interpreter.  Replica by Gerardo Suter relates to the 1985 Earthquake in Mexico City, the most devastating earthquake in the history of the Americas. Suter used approximately five seconds of one of the first images broadcast on the day of the earthquake. The text which is relayed across the screen is the initial response from Carlos Monsivais documenting his experience of the tragedy.

This collaboration will coincide with the Kerry Film Festival, now in its twelfth year.
