IMMA invites teachers and tutors from pre-primary, primary, secondary and third-level schools and colleges to bring their student groups to IMMA any time during opening hours. Teachers and tutors can book bespoke guided tours and talks focused on specific exhibitions, and can access related digital resources, such as study notes and videos. Book a free Guided Tour for your primary level class and explore Ireland’s National Cultural Institution for Modern and Contemporary Art. Check out the various types of free tours available to your class below.

IMMA is situated in the historic Royal Hospital Kilmainham, which includes a formal garden and large meadows, so there is plenty of space for outdoor exercise and a class picnic in the fresh air. Group leaders/ teachers may want to optimise their day out, so it is useful to know that IMMA is walking distance from both Kilmainham Gaol and the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks. There is also a paid car park to the rear of the main building. Visit IMMA’s new digital Heritage Trail.

To stay up-to-date, subscribe by clicking here for our Mailing List and select Primary School Teachers. Alternatively, email Mark Maguire for more information.

Guided Tour

If you’d like to book a tour of selected artworks with our Visitor Engagement Team (VET), please book here. Tours are available on Tuesday to Friday mornings, starting at 9:30am, and 45-minutes in duration. Each tour is limited to 32 children. If you require further information on exhibitions or have other queries, please email: [email protected]

Self-Guided Visit

Primary school teachers are very welcome to visit IMMA with their class groups any time during opening hours for a Self-Guided Visit. We would appreciate if you can email Chris Jones to let us know when your group are intending to visit so that we can manage numbers safely in the gallery on the day. If you require more information about exhibitions to visit, email Mark Maguire.

Online Tours

If you are unable to visit the Museum in person, IMMA can organise a 40 minute zoom call with a facilitator from our VET. Your class can explore an artwork or theme from our current exhibitions and talk to the VET facilitator about their responses and ideas. Contact Chris Jones to schedule a zoom engagement, and contact Mark Maguire for more details.

We have lots of online content and activities for you to access You can find some online resources here and explore IMMA’s online Collection here.
