Dublin-based theatre company Pan Pan presents this film, shot in the homes of 100 actors – Irish, Polish, Dutch and Norwegian – as part of a large scale theatre project called ONE – Healing with theatre that has been in development for the last year. Over that year the film crew visited each actor’s home and asked them to try and answer the question: Why do you think you became an actor?  They were also asked to perform their first or favourite audition piece. Each response was filmed and recorded. They were briefed once by telephone and again immediately before the camera was turned on. Each visit lasted no more than an hour. Centred around the opportunity of facilitating one-to-one meetings between audience and performer and designed to create a fulfilling and lasting quality of contact, the film focuses on reasons for deciding to become an actor.  In it, Pan Pan are looking to create an effect that is both intimate and individual, and to rediscover a sense of emotional and spiritual reward through the encounter.

In July this year the 100 actors took part in a vast live performance in Dublin which centred on these one-to-one meetings. The film has already been screened both in the venue of the live performance, and in the outdoor cinema in Temple Bar.

With a duration of 14 hours, the film will be shown on a loop throughout the month of September.  It gives 100 truthful answers to a simple honest question. The film is directed and shot by Gavin Quinn, with lighting by Aedín Cosgrove and sound and editing by Jimmy Eadie.
