An intiative of the Courthouse studio and the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s National Programme and Artists’ Residency Programme (ARP), nasc is an exciting discursive exchange of artist’s work/practice, ideas and modes of display.  It develops the connection that the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) has with the West Kerry Gaeltacht through the work of Lisbeth Mulcahy for Féile na Bealtaine.  This new intiative provides an artist on IMMA’s Artists’ Residency Programme the opportunity to spend part of his or her residency in Corca Dhuibhne.

As a part of nasc, John Beattie was invited to present Approaches to Contemporary Fine Art Drawing, an illustrated interactive talk dealing with the work of various artists including that of Beattie.  the talk was first presented as a part of the IMMA National Programme in response to the Line Exploring Space exhibition at the source Arts Centre & Tipperary Institute, Thurles.  John Beattie’s practice explores ideas and perceptions relating to Artist, Studio and the Audience.  His work attempts to create a discourse between academic classical traditions and contemporary practice.  Through process-based and context-specific methodologies, Beattie’s work is concerned with methods of production and representation.  Employing the use of drawing, video, sculpture and photography, his interest lies in how the viewer engages or unravels with the creative process.

Beattie is currently participating the IMMA Artists’ Residency Programme.

The artist talk will take place on Monday, 2 May at 5.30pm at Clos na bhFiodoiri, Green Street, Dingle.
