The Record of the Time is the first large-scale exhibition in Ireland of the celebrated American artist Laurie Anderson – performance artist, musician, poet, writer and visual artist. Comprising over 80 works, including installation, audio, video and art objects, the exhibition spans her career from the 1970s to her most recent works. Over the past 30 years Anderson’s work has concentrated on music and performance and has combined several art forms. Typical large-scale works include film or video, animations, digital processing, music, electronics and stories – the stories being the constant thread in her work. The work on show in this exhibition is primarily produced with sound and there are several threads – the violin, the voice, words, sonic spaces and alter egos. Anderson also includes instruments and sounds that she has used in various theatrical performances. This exhibition sets out the different stages which led from Anderson’s first creation to her latest audio piece.
