In celebration of International Week of Deaf People 2026, IMMA Horizons and Disrupt Disability Arts Festival are proud to present two Irish Sign Language events, including IMMA’s first-ever ISL interpreted gallery tour. This day is co-created with artists Omar Lorenzo Garcia, Lydia Gratis and Senan Dunne.

12:30 – 1:30pm: Introduction to Irish Sign Language  

Begin your Irish Sign Language journey with an introduction to the basics of ISL and an exploration of Deaf culture. Led by artists Omar Lorenzo Garcia, Lydia Gratis this session is designed for beginners and welcomes all who would like to take their first steps in learning ISL. 

1.30-2pm: Refreshments 

2 – 3pm :  Guided Gallery Tour with ISL Interpretation 
IMMA Horizons is delighted to present their inaugural Irish Sign Language guided gallery tour of our Art As Agency Collections exhibition. Supported by Senan Dunne and Omar Lorenzo García, this tour welcomes everyone – Deaf and hearing communities to experience the exhibition in celebration of International Week of Deaf People 2026.

International Week of Deaf People is celebrated every year in September to honour Deaf culture, promote sign language and advocate for the rights of Deaf people. These events celebrate Irish Sign Language and support greater access to the arts for Deaf communities.

This event builds on IMMA Horizons work with the Irish Deaf Society and recently released Slow Art video tours with ISL interpretation by Senan Dunne on IMMAs You Tube, which will soon be launched on our Gallery Wayfinding app Smartify
