Celebrate International Women’s Day at IMMA!
The day will begin with a biodiversity walk through the Ornamental Gardens with Sandra Murphy, a member of IMMA’s Visitor Engagement Team and an amateur wildlife photographer and Birder. This will be followed by a studio visit where Brigid Mc Clean, artist and Visitor Engagement Team Facilitator, will host a presentation of her natural dyeing and ink making process. She will have on display a collection of works in progress, finished examples and research notebooks and will share insights into her methods and practices. Brigid forages for natural materials, such as chestnuts, walnuts, leaves, flowers and fallen lichens and finds the Meadow and gardens at IMMA a rich source for materials in all seasons.
The day will conclude with a guided tour of the exhibition Irish Gothic currently showing in our West Wing Galleries. This is a major retrospective exhibition by one of Ireland’s most accomplished and respected artists Patricia Hurl. Hurl’s work is of its nature, political and traverses the disciplines of painting, multi-media and collaborative art practice. The exhibition is the first major exhibition of Patricia Hurl’s work spanning over 40 years and features over 70 of the artist’s paintings and drawings.
