Colin Middletons’s work ‘ To and Fro (for Jimmy Yancy)’, 1992 is currently on show at IMMA as part of The Narrow Gate of the Here-and–Now, Social Fabric exhibition. This painting is part of Colin Middleton’s expressive and dynamic watercolour series from 1992 belonging to IMMAs collection. 

In response to this work, IMMA is holding a painting workshop facilitated by Eleanor McCaughey and Lucy Jorgensen.  

This workshop will begin by listening to jazz recordings that ultimately inspired this series of watercolour paintings by Middleton. Participants will be invited to use quick, impulsive and rhythmic mark-making using pencil and watercolour. The workshop will explore organised movement, allowing the sounds and rhythms to guide the creation of disparate patterns, lines, textures and shapes to create a final composition.   

Participants with all levels of creative experience are welcome. Places for this workshop are free but limited.
