Continuous Patterns, the IMMA Summer party, returns to the grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham over two atmospheric midsummer evenings on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 July, 2023 complete with a dazzling array of music, talks, art, food and drink as we celebrate another wonderful year of artistry from our cherished artistic community.
After a sell out edition in 2022, we are excited to continue to develop Continuous Patterns as a widescreen, open ended interpretation of the artistic output of Dublin city – a snapshot of what is both current and continuous in the cannon of expression that surrounds and nourishes IMMA and the stunning grounds of the RHK.
Continuous Patterns offers two distinct flavours each evening, with Friday, 14 July focusing on a programme of upbeat, contemporary and future focused music, while Saturday 15 July presents a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, perfect for friends and family.
Friday July 14th sees incredible live performances led by a de facto Dublin legend Jape, with performances in tandem from the brilliant and brash nu jazz stylings of Bricknasty, the exciting emerging soulful voice of Irish-Cuban singer Qbanaa, alongside the elegant and esoteric moods of one of Dublin’s underground electronic stalwarts Dreamcycles, with complimentary DJ sets from Kerry native Efa O’Neill fresh off a landmark Boiler Room set at AVA Festival, the unstoppable grooves of Apartment Records boss Kenny Hanlon, and the ever vibrant sound pallets of Dublin based Japanese DJ Emmy Shigeta.
Saturday July 15th brings a slightly different energy, with the epic widescreen soundscapes of the hugely popular Talos, the sparkling hook laden indie creations of Ailbhe Reddy, the beautifully nuanced tones of guitar darling Cian Nugent, alongside the consistently brilliant voice of Caoi De Barra (Wyvern Lingo) and perfectly pitched Saturday evening DJ selections from broadcasting legend and champion of disparate sounds Donal Dineen, the effortless cool of Dublin based – Ethiopian DJ and DDR resident Hewan Mulugeta, and the easy charm of superb Brazilian DJ Pablo Santos.
As well as this bespoke music line up, we are excited to host Movement, a programme of talks curated by the wonderful mind of Siobhan Kane (Young Hearts Run Free/The Irish Times/Winter Papers) who prefaces the programme with this quote : “…Consciousness is only possible through change; change is only possible through movement…” – The Art of Seeing (1942), Aldous Huxley (1894-1963).
A raft of diverse and interesting contributors will explore this idea over the course of two days at IMMA, reflecting on how we contribute and why, and if we can effect an element of change. On a more general level, we will be talking about the need for movements; artistic, political, and physical. Featuring; award winning illustrator Annie Atkins, the renowned journalist Jim Carroll, lecturer in the Department of Applied Social Studies at Maynooth Rory Hearne, dancer, choreographer and artistic director of United Fall Emma Martin, Dublin writer Peter McNamara, and DJ and Give Us The Night activist Sunil Sharpe.
Continuous Patterns will also include a bespoke Live Art experience from celebrated multimedia artist Farouk Alao. Summer Breeze’is inspired by the experience of being present and living in the moment; feeling the summer breeze on a hot summer’s day when the sun is beaming. This immersive moving-image piece has been specially commissioned by IMMA for this year’s IMMA Summer Party, Continuous Patterns.
Not just focusing on the delights of the mind, we also are delighted to add delicious food from Camerino Bakery, Ginger BBQ, Tribal Burger – and exquisite refreshments from Whiplash Beer, Tanqueray Gin and Craft Cocktails.
Continuous Patterns is presented in partnership with our friends Sherpa Events & Homebeat.
