You are invited to experience art and mindfulness at IMMA, through a series of themed sensory sessions. Take time for yourself, slowing down to look closely, connect with the senses and create, in a relaxed atmosphere. Free and no previous experience of art or mindfulness needed, all welcome.

In the Moment takes place in the Matheson Creativity Hub on Tuesday mornings during the month of March, from 11am–1pm.

Schedule

Session 1: 04 March
Sensory channel: Touch.
Process: Embodiment, movement and sketching.
Slow looking session: Nigel Rolfe performance video: Cast. A Sculpture in Motion, IMMA Permanent Collection, Art as Agency.
Response: Using air drying clay- hand and body imprints and 3D work with the drawings from the morning session as a starting point.

Session 2: 11 March
Sensory channel: Hearing.
Process: Mindful listening and group voice games.
Slow looking session: Woman in the well, by Joan Jonas.
Response: Creating our own recorded soundscapes.

Session 3: 18 March
Sensory channel: Smell/Taste.
Process: Sensory walk.
Slow looking session: Vegetation Room by Cristina Iglesias.
Response: Mixed media process to explore the links between smell and memory.

Session 4: 25 March
Sensory channel: Sight.
Slow looking session: Howardena Pindell: Untitled.
Response: Mixed media on canvas.

Participants are welcome to attend just one workshop, or multiple workshops during the series.

IMMA Horizons, Lifelong Creativity for the Curious

IMMA Horizons aims to contribute to new thinking on how creativity can positively impact health and wellbeing through programming and partnerships.

Extensive research has identified the role of the arts and creative engagement in the promotion of wellbeing across the life course.
