IMMA Archive 1990s: From the Edge to the Centre provides an opportunity to celebrate the ambitious and ongoing IMMA Collection and Archive Digitisation Project, begun in 2018. In advance of IMMA’s 30th anniversary in 2021, it offers a space to consider the rich early history of IMMA’s programme and Collection, and the artists and audiences who have been at the heart of the IMMA since its inception.
The exhibition will present newly digitised material from the archive and revisit IMMA in its first years to consider the aims and ambition of the earliest exhibitions and the Collection as it was beginning to grow. As IMMA prepares to enter its fourth decade, the unfolding archive can help us to both look back and to think ahead as we continue to evolve and grow.
The project will also showcase the digitisation and conservation of the Museum’s Time-Based Media Artworks and photography of Collection artworks.
