Portraiture has dominated visual arts practices and popular culture for centuries. Yet never before have young people been exposed to their own self-image and the portraits of others so prevalently in their daily lives. With the growth of image technology, selfie culture, social media and instagram we are constantly fulfilling the roles of both subject and viewer, whether consciously or unconsciously.
In response to this phenomenon and to coincide with the museum’s current exhibition A Vague Anxiety, IMMA After are holding a portraiture workshop for adults facilitated by artist Paola Catizone. This workshop will be relaxed in approach, with refreshments provided, and participants will be given the opportunity to experiment with gestural line, before playing around with drawing portraits of each other. Participants with all levels of creative experience are welcome.
