In an exciting new initiative IMMA has invited the Irish Architecture Foundation to take over a gallery space during the Eileen Gray exhibition. The IAF’s activity comprises of an exhibition The Everyday Experience of national and international architects, designers, artists who reflect on the impact and practice of architecture and its effect on everyday lives. Work by Tatiana Bilbao, Tom dePaor and Peter Maybury, Pablo Bronstein, Set Collective, Celine Condorelli, John Gerrard in collaboration with A2 Architects, Alex Milton amongst others will reveal how much of our experience of designed or informal space is unconscious, immersed in the everyday and woven into life. In response to the exhibition there is a series of events, screenings, tours and workshops delivered in partnership with IMMA’s Education Department

Constructing the View UCD School of Architecture, Architectural Association of Ireland, Queens University Belfast
Saturday 2 November from 10.0am to 6.00pm, North Range and Chapel
A day of conversations between photographers, architects and theorists exploring the ways in which photography may be used, not just in recording built space, but also in its conception, design, evaluation and investigation. The day’s events will culminate in a discussion between photographers Thomas Struth (GER) and Michael Wolf (GER) chaired by Professor Hugh Campbell (UCD). Organised by UCD School of Architecture, Architectural Association of Ireland, Queens University Belfast in partnership with the Irish Architecture Foundation and IMMA. Conversations on the bench

Nathalie Weadick, curator of The Everyday Experience, will conduct informal conversations in the gallery space about the show with a selection of architects, designers, artists, filmmakers and writers from the show. Youth Place-Making Seminar

A presentation and discussion about the value of giving young people a voice in the design and planning process that shapes our surroundings. Drawing on Life: Screening and Q&A

A film by Paul Clarke (Architect IRL/NI) and Conor McCafferty (Curator IRL/NI) that follows architects in their daily practice, eavesdrops on their discussions and thoughts, their collaborations, and their secret everyday world of drawing. Ruta  (73 minutes)
15 December, 17 January, 2.00pm, Lecture Room

Presented by estudio de producción, in partnership with the project Ruta del Peregrino, curated by Tatiana Bilbao and Derek Dellekamp. A film by Cristian Manzutto. Each year, hundreds of people participate in the Pilgrim’s Route, to meet the Virgin of Talpa, in the mountains of the state of Jalisco. This religious voyage has taken place since the 17th century, and now has architectural landmarks along the 117 kilometers giving an iconic narrative to the route, relating the extraordinary landscape to the ritual. Nine pieces dialogue with pilgrims in specific sites by architects Ai WeiWei, Luis Aldrete , Tatiana Bilbao Emanuel Christ and Christoph Gantenbein , Derek Dellekamp, Alejandro Aravena , Tilo Herlach, Simon Hartmann, Simon Frommenwiler and Rozana Montiel. This film captures the journey through the route, very close to the people and their relation with the sites.

The Extraordinary Experimental
14, 15 and 16 January

Workshops especially designed for Transition Year groups where 14-16 year olds will interrogate the impact of architecture and design on everyday ‘ordinary’ life.  Inspired by the exhibition The Everyday Experience and Eileen Gray, they will explore the potential for transformation from the ‘ordinary’ into the ‘extraordinary’ through the creation of life-size temporary installations. Lisa Cassidy (Writer & Blogger IRL) will deliver walking tours starting in the IMMA courtyard that will consider the architecture of everyday life in the immediate surroundings of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, threading between the literal present and other points in time and space.

SET Collective: Architectural zine and film screenings
12, 19 and 26 January, 2.00pm, Lecture Room
SET Collective (IRL) will take the form of a limited run newsprint publication, produced specifically for The Everyday Experience. It will consist of three illustrated essays by Stephen Mulhall (nineteeneighty IRL), Tom Keeley (Range Editions UK) and Theo Simpson (Mass Observation UK), with accompanying Sunday matinee screenings in the Lecture Room.

Architects in Schools Colloquium

In April 2013 the IAF launched the new National Architects in Schools Initiative. The participating architects and teachers are invited to discuss their experience and the value of the initiative.
