The Place Project is a student-directed research project devised for first-year BA Art students from IADT in collaboration with IMMA. This project introduces students to practical speculative enquiry in response to a specific place and location.

The Place Project began in 2008 as a site-specific project focusing on IMMA. Students responded to IMMA as museum, institution, public space, historical site, architectural space, cartographical point, route, environment, etc. The Place Project has evolved into a comprehensive self-directed research project, incorporating peer and professional led-learning, professional mentoring, public presentations of active research on site and public exhibition. Using IMMA as ‘place’, students have developed research projects, creating artistic outcomes within the artists’ studios, the Museum building and the grounds.

Visit us and discover a range of site-specific and site-responsive artworks and projects exhibited in various locations around the grounds and buildings of IMMA and the RHK. Keep an eye out for QR codes available at each location which will share more information about the work. To access The Place Project exhibition online click here.
