St. Kilian’s Heritage Centre, Mullagh County Cavan.
February – March 1998
The National Programme is keen to ensure that small projects are given the same importance and emphasis as larger projects. This exhibition came about through contact made with a Local Authority arts officer who linked the National Programme to Saint Kilian’s Heritage Centre in Mullagh, Co. Cavan a village with a population of less than 1,000 people. Saint Kilian’s Heritage Centre is a new centre which hosts a permanent exhibition featuring the local Saint Kilian. The centre was interested in having a change of exhibition in order to encourage local people to use it more regularly. A small selection of paintings was made by the Centre manager and the National Programmer designed to suit the gallery and its rural setting. This exhibition was highly successful with the local community taking a huge interest. As a result the community of the neighbouring Kells were keen to host an exhibition for their heritage festival which went ahead with great success in July 1998. The National Programme anticipates further developments in these particular villages but also in other equivalent situations.
