In association with her exhibition at IMMA on the 21 June 2005 Catherine Lee also participated on the Artists’ Residency Programme for three months prior and leading into the installation of her solo show. Abstraction is the language of Catherine Lee’s work and this is achieved through colour, texture, scale and composition. Her work conjures up a diverse range of references from both the past and future technologies; she works mainly in the medium of bronze.
During her time at IMMA Catherine Lee experimented with drawing in her studio. Catherine completed a series of drawings, which are presented in the format of a book. These pages are then displayed standing upright echoing the sculptures from her solo show, the drawings are displayed on a table from her studio. The artist will change the composition and placing of these pages on a daily basis. Catherine’s drawings offer the viewer an opportunity to visualise the process of her practice, her strong sense of shape, colour and scale are evident from these compositions and complement her solo show in an intimate and revealing way.
