Are you living with dementia or do you know someone who is? Why not come along to IMMA and experience our next dementia-inclusive Azure tour. These tours are tailored towards people living with dementia and their families and friends and are facilitated by IMMA staff members who are trained in providing art tours for people with dementia.

The next tour takes place on Friday 2 August at 11.00am, when you can join Trish from our Visitor Engagement Team and explore selected work from the exhibition Life Above Everything: Lucian Freud and Jack B Yeats.

We will meet at IMMA’s Freud Centre at 11.00am. After the tour, we finish with an optional complimentary tea or coffee and a chat in IMMA’s ‘Kemp Sisters Cafe’. Refreshments are kindly sponsored by the ‘Kemp Sisters Cafe’.

Guests are also more than welcome to come along to the tour as a ‘drop-in’ attendees – just meet us at the time/date mentioned above.

We also offer free, book-able AZURE tours to dementia care facilities or dementia support organisations who wish to bring groups to visit IMMA. A tour can be specially arranged by contacting Margaret via email edcommbooking@imma.ie or call 01 612 9955.

Lucian Freud

Lucian Freud 1922–2011

Lucian Freud (1922-2011) was one of the greatest realist painters of the 20th century. Renowned for his portrayal of the human form, Freud is best known for his intimate, honest, often visceral portraits. Working only from life Freud’s studio was intensely private and he mainly worked with those he was close to, often asking subjects to sit for hundreds of hours over multiple sittings to better capture the essence of their personality.

Jack Butler Yeats

Jack Butler Yeats 1871–1957

Irish painter Jack B. Yeats was born in London and grew up in Sligo with his maternal grandparents before returning to London in 1887 to live with his parents. He briefly attended the Government School of Design and the Westminster School of Art and went onto work as an illustrator for sporting periodicals and newspapers. A visit to the West of Ireland in 1898 inspired his first solo exhibition 'Sketches of Life in the West of Ireland'. It would remain his theme for much of his artistic career.
