Are you living with dementia or do you know someone who is? IMMA is one of the lead partners of a programme called ‘Azure’ which aims to make art galleries and museums around Ireland dementia-friendly spaces. Azure explores how people with dementia-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s, and the people who care for them, can have a deeper involvement in cultural institutions and can participate in cultural activities.

Inspired by the ‘Meet Me at MoMA’ programme at MoMA, New York, Azure offers guided exhibition tours specifically designed to support people living with dementia and their family, friends or professional carers, to engage with the art work on show and enjoy a social museum experience.

How to take part

You can take part in the programme by coming to one of our dedicated Azure tours which are led by specially trained guides. You can pre-book your attendance in advance, or you can just drop in to one of the sessions listed below. We know schedules can change so don’t worry if you need to cancel a booking closer to the time.

Chairs will be supplied throughout the galleries, and there are lifts and access for wheelchairs in both buildings. IMMA can provide manual wheelchairs if pre-booked with Caroline – see details below. The tour will conclude with an (optional) complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits with IMMA staff in the Itsa@ IMMA Café.

Upcoming Azure tours at IMMA:

Friday 2 February, 11.00 – 12.30pm
Friday 2 March, 11.00 – 12.30pm *Cancelled due to weather warnings*
Friday 6 April, 11.00 – 12.30pm
Friday 4 May, 11.00 – 12.30pm

How to Book

You can book for an Azure tour by contacting Caroline via email to [email protected] or phone 01-612 9955. If booking in advance doesn’t suit you, you’re also more than welcome to come along to our tours as a ‘drop-in’ attendee – just meet us at reception at the times/dates mentioned above.

We also offer Azure tours to Dementia Care facilities or Dementia Support Organisations who wish to bring groups to visit IMMA. Such tours can be specially arranged by contacting Caroline or Alice via email to [email protected] or telephone to 01 612 9955.
