Whether you are a formal learner, or just curious to find out more, we can help you to engage with creativity, conceptual thinking and cultural meaning at IMMA.

Third Level

IMMA works with third level institutions to provide support for tutors and students to engage with the museum and its programmes. We support students and tutors to visit IMMA, to engage with our exhibitions and collections, to meet artists in residence and to use IMMA and its resources as a site for research. We provide staff support, information and space for discussing and responding to aspects of our programmes.

IMMA also provide Teachers Packs and Resources for selected exhibitions which can be downloaded below. We also offer free tickets for Teachers, plus a guest, for ticketed exhibitions. To avail of this offer just select the ‘Teacher’ ticket from the booking page of the exhbition you wish to attend, and an accompanying ticket from the relevant category (adult, child, senior etc). You will be asked to enter your School name or Roll Number.

Resources: What Is_?

IMMA have produced the  What is …? information programme, which explores key themes and issues in relation to modern and contemporary art, through a series of talks, information booklets and web-based resources. As part of this programme, a Glossary was created containing a select number of terms relating to the subjects of Modern and Contemporary Art. This glossary is not comprehensive or exhaustive and is intended to be informative rather than definitive. This glossary will be developed, amended and expanded over time.

IMMA Student Residency

The purpose of this residency is to enable a postgraduate student from a college outside Dublin to spend a month in Dublin meeting artists and curators, visiting artists’ studios and exhibitions, and undertaking research in relation to the development of their professional practice.

The student will be provided with accommodation and studio space for the month of June in IMMA’s Residency Programme and they will also receive support from IMMA staff and also a bursary from their respective college.

In 2018 Lar O’Toole from the Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork received the award and was based in IMMA’s studios for the month of June. To find out more about Lar’s residency, click here.
