You are invited to experience art and mindfulness at IMMA, through a series of sensory themed sessions. Take time for yourself, slowing down to look closely, connect with the senses and create, in a relaxed atmosphere. Free and no previous experience of art or mindfulness needed, all welcome.
This workshop is offered as part of IMMA Horizons Lifelong Creativity for the Curious, a new programme at IMMA. IMMA Horizons aims to contribute to new thinking on how creativity can positively impact health and wellbeing through programming and partnerships, and offers opportunities to connect through creativity and curiosity, supporting wellbeing with engaging arts experiences.
Participants are welcome to attend just one workshop, or multiple workshops during the series.
Below is a selection of questions and answers about In The Moment. For further information about this programme contact [email protected].
In the Moment is a series of workshops for adults that combine mindfulness, conversations about art in IMMA’s exhibitions and engaging creative activities. A chance to take some time out of the everyday to do something stimulating for your wellbeing.
These workshops are for anyone over 18 years of age. You could be a regular gallery goer, or someone who has never been to a museum before. No experience of art or mindfulness is necessary. Previous participants have described In the Moment as;
“Time out for me to do something for myself”
“A new experience, sharing art with others and learning from each other”
“Relaxing!”
“A mind-opening experience”
Seating will be provided during all workshops and we can accommodate additional accessibility needs as required.
In the Moment takes place on Tuesday mornings on the 9, 16, 23, 30 April from 11am-12.30pm.
These workshops work well as a series, but if you can’t make it to all workshops, just let us know which dates you are interested in and we will accommodate you as best we can.
Each workshop will begin with a gentle warmup to relax the body and mind, awaken the senses and encourage us to slow down and be present.
We will then look closely at a selected artwork at IMMA, taking time to explore it and to share our impressions in a relaxed conversation, unpacking the image together. Knowledge of contemporary art is not necessary, we are particularly interested in looking at art with fresh eyes! You will also have a chance to respond creatively in writing, drawing or through imaginative group games. There is no pressure to produce a work of art, these prompts will enable you to experience the artwork in a different way and engage your brain creatively.
Simply email [email protected] with any questions you have, or to book, please include your name and any access requirements you might have.
