About the Artist

Tony O'Malley 1913–2003

Irish artist Tony O’Malley painted part-time while working with the Munster and Leinster Bank until the late 1950s. O’Malley moved to St Ives in Cornwall in 1960. His extensive body of work is concerned with the landscape, and the spirit of personal and folk history which it embodies. He returned to Kilkenny in 1990. Exhibitions of O’Malley’s work were held at IMMA in 1992 and 2001, and a major retrospective exhibition took place in 2005. O’Malley was made a Saoi of Aosdána in 1993.
