Cathy Wilkes’ Untitled, 2021 is a mixed media installation, particularly interesting in the context of IMMA’s existing collection of works about the conflict in Northern Ireland, and more specifically to the Abercorn restaurant bombing in 1972 in Belfast city centre, in which two people died and one hundred and thrirty were injured.

About the Artist

Cathy Wilkes b.1966

Cathy Wilkes (b. 1966, Belfast; lives and works in Glasgow) represented Britain at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 and was the inaugural recipient of the Maria Lassnig Prize in 2016, which was accompanied by a solo exhibition at MoMA PS1, New York. Wilkes’ work is held in numerous collections and was the subject of a major touring exhibition by Tate Liverpool in 2015.
