The Original of Species, by Diana Copperwhite is inspired by a room in E1027, a villa in Cape Martin, France of pioneering modernist design by renowned Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray. Gray’s practice particularly focused on how architecture and interior design intersect with the human body, memory, and space. Copperwhite’s painting speaks to Gray’s innovative use of materials, textiles and light to create a sensory experience of spaces.
