English artist Rachel Whiteread attended Brighton Polytechnic and the Slade School of Fine Art. Working with traditional casting methods and materials such as plaster, resin and rubber, Whiteread creates sculptures of the negative space defined by a building or domestic object. Whiteread received the Turner Prize in 1993. She has exhibited extensively, including at Tate Modern; the Serpentine Gallery, London; Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
