Stephen McKenna, 1939–2017

Rossbeg Clouds, 1999

Cloud formations in Ireland are infinitely variable. Artists have always been captivated by them, and clouds have held a particular fascination for Stephen McKenna. In paintings such as Rossbeg Clouds, McKenna brings an ethereal quality, hinting at an intangible, spiritual realm beneath the surface or engaging the subconscious on some level.
