Gorey’s paintings eschew ostentatious gesture, drawing instead on understatement to carry her message. Video and digital technology, used by her for the first time in ‘Red I’, represents a seamless progression from her previous painting practice.

    Helena Gorey, b.1961

    Irish artist Helena Gorey attended the Limerick School of Art and Design and the Academia di Belle Arti in Perugia, Italy. Since 1989 Gorey has served as Collection Manager for the Arts Council. She has received numerous awards including First Prize at the Monaghan Open Exhibition in 1995 and a CCAT Award for touring, Wales, in 2006. Her work is held in public collections including the Office of Public Works; the Arts Council of Ireland and the National Self Portrait Collection, Limerick.
