American composer Morton Feldman was a pioneer of indeterminate music, a development associated with the experimental New York School of composers. From the 1950s Feldman rejected traditional compositional systems and experimented with musical notation. He found inspiration in the paintings of the Abstract Expressionists and wrote many pieces in honour of artists who became his friends. A major exhibition celebrating Feldman’s relationship with the visual arts was presented at IMMA in 2010.View Artist
