British photographer Chris Steele-Perkins (born 1947) was born in Rangoon, Burma . His family moved to London in 1949. Steele-Perkins studied psychology at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In 1971 he began working as a freelance photographer in London. He joined the Paris-based agency Viva in 1976. In 1979 Steele-Perkins joined Magnum and began working extensively in the Third World. Steele-Perkins has published over a dozen photographic books and won numerous awards. His work is included in major collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; the Photographers’ Gallery, London; the National Portrait Gallery, London; and Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. —
