    Helen Escobedo 1934–2010

    Helen Escobedo is a sculptor, curator and arts administrator based in Mexico City. After initial success making bronze figurative sculptures, Escobedo became known for large outdoor installations. Her work ‘Gateway to the Wind’ marked the entrance to the Mexico City Olympic Games in 1968. Commissions in New Zealand, Mexico, Israel and England followed in the 1970s and 1980s.  Escobedo’s art became increasingly political and committed to environmental issues in her later career.
